
Christine "Spike" Nelson:
Spike is introduced as Emma’s mom in Season 1. When she finds that her high-school friend Archie (Snake) is teaching at Emma’s school, they begin to date. Spike ends up proposing to Snake who decides to accept. Shortly before their wedding, Spike discovers she is pregnant. Knowing that Snake is not ready for a child, she starts thinking that an abortion would be best. When Emma learns of her mother’s intentions, she decides to inform Snake at a party. The following day, Snake confronts Spike which ends in them choosing to keep the baby. They are forced to rush to church when their conversation drags on, and thus marry wearing casual clothing.
Season 3
Spike is chastised by Emma this season after she learns of her real father, Shane’s, state. When Shane decides to pay a visit to the Simpson household, he shows his anger by trashing the place. Spike ends up going to labor and gives birth to her new boy, Jack. Aside from her pregnancy, Spike is left to help Manny this season. When Manny discovers that she is pregnant, she goes to Spike without hesitation. Spike tells her that the choice of what to do is hers. Manny ends up opting for an abortion.
Season 4
Emma begins to act strangely following the shooting at school. Spike helps her wade through the difficult times by continuing to love her and helping her deal with her various issues.
Season 5
Spike’s relationship with Snake is jeapordized when Emma observes Snake making out with Mrs. Hatzilakos. Emma ends up forcing Snake to tell her mother, which results in his removal from the household. Emma contacts Caitlin in an attempt to cheer her mother up. In the end, Snake wins her heart back when he shows up in a tuxedo at her place of work. He proceeds to sing their song, and thus mends their relationship. Spike’s relationship woes and her need for Emma to help around the house have put a great toll on Emma. Emma lapses into an eating disorder, but is later able to recover after attending a rehab center.
Season 6
Emma is thought to be pregnant in season 6. Spike is supportive throughout, and finds that her support has gone to vain when she discovers it is just a scare.
