10/28/2006 - Degrassi Movie Shelved For Now

Kevin Smith's official website newsaskew.com has an update on the Degrassi Movie project Smith was in line to direct from a Q&A that was done with Stefan Brogren (Snake) and Pat Mastroianni (Joey.) As reported before the movie was supposed to be filmed in tandem with season six. And released in between seasons similar to The X-Files Movie. The movie had a script and it had funding but things just didn't come together. It of course has since been shelved and the storylines from it have been incorporated into ongoing season 6 storylines. Stefan went on to estimate the show may only go on for another year as the kids are getting older and going to college and they don't want to jump the shark, he added of course the end of the series would be another good opportunity for a movie, so it will be looked at again; and you can bet Kevin Smith will be involved. Of course at the time this is all speculation in the end CTV will be a deciding factor in how much longer Degrassi will be on the air as they are the ones that order the series.
