4/12/2006 - Degrassi On Demand; Graduates Return?

In an unexpected move, the-n.com recently made many full episodes of Degrassi: TNG available for download in a new section of their website called Degrassi On Demand.

The new, FREE feature allows fans of the show to catch up on some of the more recently aired season 5 episodes (such as Lexicon Of Love and Together Forever), as well as some older fan favorites (Shout and Ghost In The Machine). This move appears to be an effort to: 1.Give fans a show a way to legally view episodes on their home PC's, and 2. Deter them from seeking illegal means to download the episodes (hint:hint). It should also be noted that apparently only people within the US can view the site.

Also available on demand are specials like webisodes and interviews. Currently an interview with Lauren Collins is available in which she reveals that even though some cast gradates in season 5 we should not be surprised to see them in season 6. Below is Lauren's exec quote:

"Well, I guess it's safe to say even though some of the characters are graduating it won't be the last you see of them. And I think that ah, we will be picking up their lives in season 6, so it should be interesting."

This move is apparently one that not only the-n has in mind. ABC recently announced they would be making certain episodes of four of their Prime-Time shows available on Demand through ABC.com. Of course, ABC will be embedding commercials into their streams (something the-n.com currently does not). This new twist is all just another step in the fight against online file sharing of copyrighted material.

What this move means for the release of season 6 episodes of DTNG remains to be seen. Will the-n release episodes earlier than in previous years, keeping fans up to date with the Canadian airings? Perhaps yes, perhaps no.

Regardless, Degrassi On Demand is a good thing. Check it out here.
